Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest way to order repeat prescriptions is:
- using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS App)
These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.
You can also:
- bring the paper form to the surgery, when we are open.
- phone us on 01228 711760, Monday to Friday, when we are open
We do not take repeat prescription requests over email.
Collecting your prescription
We are a dispensing practice.
Most patients can obtain their medication from the dispensary at Dalston Surgery. If you live within a mile of a pharmacy, however, you become a non-dispensing patient and we cannot dispense medications to you. This rule does not apply to patients living within the Dalston area.
Dispensary opening times
- Monday 9am to 6pm
- Tuesday 9am to 6pm
- Wednesday 9am to 6pm
- Thursday 9am to 6pm
- Friday 9am to 6pm
You can usually collect your prescription from the dispensary 7 working days after you have ordered it.
You will need to choose your pharmacy if you are a non-dispensing patient. We call this nominating a pharmacy.
You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:
- on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions
- at your GP practice
- at any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions
If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.
The NHS website has information on how your medicine works, how and when to take it, possible side effects and answers to your common questions.

If you are due for a medication review please call the surgery. The receptionist will either make you an appointment with the healthcare assistant for routine blood tests if appropriate or send a message to the GP who will review your records and update them as appropriate or ask the reception to contact you to make an appointment.

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from or bring it in to the surgery. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:
- coughs
- colds
- sore throats
- tummy trouble
- aches and pains
They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.
Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
